how does trileptal work in a bipolar patient?

Posted by socially_inept on June 12, 2004, at 11:52:11

i was diagnosed with manic depression/ocd/social anxiety disorder/borderline personality disorder about three years ago and am currently being treated with trileptal, lexapro, prozac, and was on nordil, my question is how does a medication that was formulated for epilepsy help correct things chemically in a bipolar patient? dont get me wrong, it works, but i would really like to know how, i find it somewhat strange that this medication is used. i also do not have epilepsy and have never really had seizures, but in the time that i have been on the trileptal i have had eight major seizures and countless minute seizures, what is causing this?
