OK-
I have been on 15mg of Remeron for 8-9weeks. It has helped a lot with my anxiety, but am still weepy and feel "hung over" a good part of the day (from the Remeron, I assume) The first couple of weeks on Remeron I actually had a lot of day time energy but that has passed. I went through really bad paxil withdrawal and now don't seem to be able to take ssri's (or at least I'm not sticking it out through the start up side effects--I get all of them).
Anyway, I finally got in with my pdoc again and he suggested upping the remeron. I told him I tried upping to 22.5mg and that I was pretty much in a coma for three days. I then asked if I upped it further like to 30 or 45mg would that work better, but he didn't seem to think so. He is with the University and they did some study to see if the reverse side effect deal was true and he said that the study didn't bear that out. Crud. Would rather be on one drug than a bunch.
Anyway, he suggested adding Wellbutrin (which i do prefer to totally dropping the remeron and starting all over with something else).
Here is my dilema. I ordered Manerix on line and it arrived TODAY the same day I had my psych appointment. Weird. Wasn't expecting it for another week. I was attracted to the manerix/aurorix/moclobemide because of its great side effects profile. I have the "side effect gene" and if a drug will make you sick, even temporarily, I will be sicker than a dog. Also, it is suppossed to be good for social anxiety disorder if you take 600mg. (I would start at 300mg in a divided dose). Remeron is not helping the Social Anxiety, but its not my biggest concern at the moment. Being a functional human being is.
If both drugs were approved here, I would definitely go for the manerix--a no brainer. However, since manerix isn't, I feel like maybe I should try the wellbutrin (but I'm worried about increased anxiety, dizziness, upset stomach etc)just to keep everything on the up and up.
Can wellbutrin make you feel happy? Or does it just give you a lot of energy? I just want to feel happy again.
All replys appreciated. (As for SSRI's: I'm just not ready to mess with them again right now)
