just a theroy, but I too used to experience that mood lifting effect , not with sonata but with ambien, it's almost like a paradoxical reaction. The meds , sonata , ambien and the like are hypnotics- and some times in using them they allow you to be tranquil so to speak in order for you to go to sleep " thus making you feel like your depressive symptoms seem to go away.... I told my sister a long time ago that I wish I could find a med like ambien that has a longer half-life it almost seems like it be a semi-perfect cure for depression. but hey who knows just my experience and my over analytical mind trying to figure this whole thing out! the best time of a 24 hr day used to be the 1 hour when I took my ambien and then a 30-45 window of feeling comfortably calm , happy and then sleepy then to awake the next day to find that "good feeling" was short lived and transient in nature-any how just my 2 cents hope it helps!
Good Luck
