Interestingly, my two week trial of Remeron just ended due to weight gain. I gained ten pounds in two weeks. The sleep it gave was not worth it. My PDoc prescribed Topomax instead, and I actually slept through the night, with no sluggishness this morning...

I took remeron for a couple of years and it was the best sleep I've ever had. you have to tailor the dose otherwise you might get a bad hangover, or not enough sleep. it was also more effective for me at lower doses. Unfortunately it comes with weight gain. I didn't gain much but I lost ten pounds when I came off it
