Hi,this is my first time on this highly informative website and I am desperate to find ways of helping my sister. It's a complicated set of circumstances surrounding her illnes but I hope that some of you out there can give me some positive feedback.Has anyone heard of or experienced what I can only describe as nerve pain caused by sudden antidepressant withdrawal or interaction with another A.D.My sister is 57 and had been taking Anafranil without any major side effects for 20 years.About eighteen months ago she began to complain of fatigue. Her Doctor switched her immediately to the SSRI Cipramil with disastrous consequences. After suffering hyperanxiety and insomnia for six weeks she stopped them suddenly but the side effects (or withdrawal symptoms?)continued. Her Doctor reintroduced Anafranil which actually made things worse by adding deafening "tinnitus" to her problems. After trying Amytryptylin she now started to experience a burning pain in her lower back which has since spread to her leg and even the sole of her foot. She has understandably become phobic about any antidepressant but was persuaded to try the seratonin precursor Triptophan but six months later she still suffers from all of these dreadfull symptoms. Codidramol and Acupan have not helped the pain and despite taking Nitrazepam she cant sleep Would the the reintroduction of an SSRI help as I suspect most of her problems stem from her sudden withdrawal from it.I am devastated watching her suffer like this while the doctors dont seem to know how to help.I live in Glasgow,Scotland.
