> "Definite causes of GAD are unclear. Some research suggests that GAD may run in families, and it may also grow worse during stress. GAD usually begins at an earlier age and symptoms may manifest themselves more slowly than in most other anxiety disorders. Neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, and norepinephrine have been shown to play a role in anxiety, as have brain structures such as the amygdala and the locus ceruleus. Disruptions in the balance of these neurotransmitters, or to the anatomical structure of these locations in the brain, could contribute to GAD."
