In reply to I have Panic OCD- whats the BEST medicine combo?, posted by smittay17 on December 15, 2003, at 10:28:05
Panic and OCD equally respond to serotogenic medications. Panic disorder however does seem to imrove further with serotogenic/norepinephric medications.
You might want to start with the SSRI paxil. It has slight effect in imcreasing norephinephrine. Mainly however it increases serotonin levlels.
If your panic attacks are not adeqitly helped by Paxil, you may want to try Effexor, which has a stronger effect on norephineprine.
Generally if you reach a dose of antidepressant that is too high, you will have symptoms like excessive somnolence, and drowsyness, (serotogenic meds) or excessive jitteryness/acivation, and cardiovasucular activation (excessive norephineprine action)
I wouldn't worry too much about serotonin syndrome. It is very rare, and almost never happens on SSRI's alone. It usually happens with the combination of two or more serotogenic agents. Like combining an SSRI with St. john's wort.
Best of Luck
