Adderall-tolerance: Memantine, Acamprosate, DXM

Posted by Jake E on December 7, 2003, at 17:06:01

I have a very specific question for the forum regarding Adderall-tolerance. Let me give some brief background.

A person takes Adderall for the first time and finds his ablity to focus and motivation levels sky rocket. As a result, his life improves greatly.

As time progresses his ability to focus gradually dissipates, and he is less motivated. Then, after, say, four weeks, the Adderall is barely effective. Now the only option is to increase the dosage. You can see where this is going.

My question is targeted at people who have been in this situation.

My current understanding is that there are certain drugs that prevent (or eliminate) this type of tolerance. Namely, Memantine, Acamprosate, and Dextrometorphan (DXM).

Now here is my question.

For those of you who have developed a tolerance to Adderall (not including AndrewB): Have any of you tried either Memantine, Acamprosate, or DXM and then experienced either a reduction or complete elimination of the adderall-tolerance?

If so, please respond to this post, or contact me directly at [email protected]. I've searched the archives and the Internet and failed to find a concrete response.
