Paxil is fairly horrible to come off of but it varies from individual to indivual. I used Prozac to get off Paxil and ended up liking Prozac even though I, like you, have generalized anxiety disorder and Prozac can be a little too activating for us anxiety prone types.
It sounds like you are experiencing some withdrawals that will subside over time. The fact that you made it 18 days plus without Paxil says a lot as I was climbing the walls when I went cold turkey after 3 days and could not have made it without slowly reducing my dose and adding Prozac.
Almost all SSRIs do have a withdrawal that can make one feel worse off than they did before they started. However, eventually one will return to their pre-SSRI state, it is just a question of when and as I said before Paxil is a particular nasty offender. Prozac is MUCH easier to get off of as it has a longer half life.
Lexapro may be your best bet as it is cheaper. Trazadone can be very sedating.
