> Hello,

> We spoke a couple weeks ago about anhydrous betaine and I have begun taking a product made by Solgar called Homocysteine Modulators (contains 1g TMG, 50 mg B6, 400mcg folic acid, and 500mcg vit.B12).This combination provides what your body needs to activate two separate pathways for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine.
> So far I have taken one a day and have noticed a definate anti-depressant effect. You stated in a previous post that the side effects are similar to that of Sam-e. Just what are the side effects specifically?
Primarily you face a risk of activation of mania. Bipolars need to monitor mood effects closely. My personal side-effect involves insomnia (which might be a risk factor for mania).
>Does this product increase Seratonin and if so would there be a risk of sexual disfunction?
Not directly, although it does promote all kinds of good results via increases in SAMe availability.
>I ask b/c I think I might be taking too much. You take 500-1000mg every 4th day, correct?
Yes, or even less seldom. I'm not religious about taking my supplements. You can play with the dose (alternate days, for example) and find a comfort level that's right for you.
What has been your experience at higher doses?
Somewhat similar to caffeine, but more comfortable. And, like I said, insomnia. I already have a sleep disorder involving insomnia, so I have to be careful with anything that stimulates me.
>I am sleeping well and do not feel flushed or nervous, just some possible sexual disfuntion (not sure though, too early to tell).
I've never heard of that outcome related to homocysteine modulation. If anything, libido and sexual function would tend to increase (my opinion). Maybe you're a little anxious?
> Thanks, your response is greatly appeciated!

> AmyYou're welcome. My pleasure.
