> I was wondering if a capsule of Prozac or Celexa can be opened and dissolved in a glass of juice? Will it still do what it is supposed to do or does it lose its effectiveness? I am very sensitive to dosages of meds and this way I could just drink an ounce or two each day and work my way up.
I used to mix Prozac up in water and stash it in the fridge (was taking 1/7 of a 20mg capsule every morning). My pdoc knew what I was doing and didn't have any problems with it. The solution probably isn't as stable and probably less effective than a ready-made one from the manufacturer. Later on they started making 10mg scored tabs of Prozac (after I stopped it). Given that Prozac and its active metabolite have such a long half-life, you could probably take 5mg (half of a 10mg scored tab) of Prozac every other day, i.e. Celexa is soluble in ethanol not water, so that requires vodka or something similar to mix it up.... you can get liquid Celexa ready-made from Forest-ask your pharmacist.
