Is your relative seeing a geriatric specialist? That might help, because I think dosing can be quite different in older people. I know that a neighbor of mine was given a dose of a painkiller when she broke a bone and that only made it worse because she completely lost her balance and fell, breaking more bones!!
Also, I think I have read that stimulants are used to "jump start" ADs with older people becuase it is too hard to wait until the AD's work. I also recall reading that stimulants are sometimes used as an AD for elderly people. Don't rely on these vague references I've given you, though, obviously! Try a search at Dr. Bob's psychopharmocology tips (link at top of page) or a search at pubmed.
