> genoGeno,
I tried.amytrip (Elavil), nortrip, & desipramine, all for chronic pain (& hoping they wd. help depression). I stayed on desip.(norpramine) the longest, 'cause my pain was so bad-100 mgs. a day for 4 months. I got over all TCA sedation s-e's after 1 week, then felt nothing except extreme dry mouth and a driving urge for sweets.I was neither sedated, nor stimulated-maybe my dose was too low. The sweets and dry mouth really had an adverse affect on my teeth, for which I am now paying the price (3 yrs. later).Don't remember why I was prescribed Remeron, probably for its rep. for instilling restorative and reg sleep patterns. It was just one in a long list of A-D trials. It had no marked affect on my mood, but I took 30 mgs 30-60 minutes before lights out, and I never slept more smoothly and comfortably in my life. It was the only A-D I ever tried that had a timely and very noticable effect on relieving most of my anxiety (I noticed a marked change in 10 days). I slept 7-8 1/2 hours, woke easily and, after one smaall coffee, felt no grogginess during the day. But, my mood was never improved, and I began to eat, or as I term it, 'graze' constantly. Fear of fat made me quit after 6-7 weeks. Even combining it w/Wellbutrin did not stem the urge to eat, and the depression, lack of motivation, never improved.
For those who lose weight with their dep. episodes, & suffer anxiety & insomnia, it can be an effective med. Also improves muscle relaxation and reparation which are needed during sleep hrs, for those people suffering from Fibro, myofascial pain syndrome and other soft muscle tissue ailments. But, truly, I have have never thought about food so much in my entire life, and everything tasted great!
good luck~
