In reply to tired of taking drugs..........wish I was normal, posted by angel1 on December 11, 2001, at 16:37:13
Hi angell...
it takes time, you need to be patient. I know how you feel, I've been there. I am better now, but it took a long time. It probably tool a long time for you to become depressed and perhaps you were for a while before starting treatment, so you cannot expect instant recovery. You might want to switch drugs - the one you are currently taking might not be right for you. Talk to your doctor about it.I did cognitive and behavioral therapy to get out of major depression, which still helps everyday; they are life-skill tools. (I also used acupuncture, which accelerated the recovery process big time) But it was a lot of work! I wish I had not had to spend many years getting better, but I got there. With meds it is likely to be faster. Now I am trying low-dose long-term meds because I find I still have to work too hard to avoid relapses when I am stressed, but I am much better than I once was. But I remember the suffering. Perhaps you could read on these things? I think they are likely to also help, along with the drugs.
Have you tried exercising? It helps elevate your mood.
Also, depression is a definite sign that one must concentrate on oneself for a while. I hope your boyfriend is there for you, but depression is hard to deal with for people around us. He may or may not be up to the challenge. Either way, I believe you should be your own priority until you are better. Although it is still important to plan for the future, and to have dreams that you'd like to accomplish.
I wish you the best, and I wish you the patience you need for this process. You will get better, you need to work on it, including talking to your doc about why it is taking so much time.
