FluSymptoms on Prozac/Zoloft/Serzone..????

Posted by jay on December 11, 2001, at 6:02:46

A few people have posted something similar, so I thought I would ask. I tend to get really bad flu/cold/sick sinus symptoms on Prozac, Zoloft, and Serzone (slightly less on Luvox..no not all at the same time!!!..heh), and have no problem with this when taking Paxil, Celexa, or Effexor.

I don't really think this is an allergic reaction, because it is similar symtpoms. (I have tested this over 8-10 or so years, and even going back in my journal to the first time taking the meds, got the same reaction.)

It is certainly *not* anything damaging, because I stop the med, and the symptoms go away after a few days. On two occassions I stayed on Zoloft and then Serzone for a long period of time (2 months..), and my cold symptoms became really nasty, and affected my immune system by my getting oral "Thrush" (fungal infection of the mouth) for the first times in my life. By stoppping the meds, and getting med treatment, everything was fine.

But, what would this say about my psychological reaction to the meds? All SRI's are not created equal, and each has it's own impact on serotonin and norepinephrine, as well as other NT's. Would this be an indication as to what meds would work beter or not?

I know it is a long shot question wise, but just curious.

Thanks..
Jay
