Welcome Tubehead - Gil is right, Klonopin™ (Rivotril™ - clonazepam) can be used in place of Valium™ (diazepam) and may be better for the anxiety during weaning. Both have long half-lives. I like his decreasing the dose by 1/6 per week (both Valium and Klonopin are available in flat tablets that can be cut up into smaller pieces using a sharp knife. If you have to stay at a dose for a couple weeks don't be discouraged. Listen to your body and don't be in a hurry to quit.
As for equivalence, approximately:
1mg of Xanax™ (alprazolam) = 10mg of Valium = 2mg of Klonopin
Common withdrawl symptoms (an indication that you are withdrawing too fast) - anxiety, insomnia, headache, dizziness, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, tremor, sweating, irritability, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, heart plpitations, and postural hypotention (ie. rising to quickly from lying down or sitting can cause dizziness or fainting).
The dose that you are taking is relatively low, so you should really have no problem weaning yourself from the Xanax. I doubt that you will experience many of the above withdrawl symptoms.
Good luck, and keep us posted. - Cam
