> Hi--
check out the thread about this on psycho-babble about children.
This is something that needs *expert* attention; it's a very common
phenomena and little understood. My daughter's case [as you'll read]
is rather extreme but her pdoc said that he has seen more than a few
adolescents who develop severe depression after mono -- and who knows
why. At this point, I don't think it's as important as immediate treatment.
Like your son, my 15 y/o was bedridden essentially for close to 2 years
until her depression became life threatening.
It matters little what anti-depressant is energizing: you need to find the
best adolescent pdoc available to prescribe what works for your son and his
particular neurochemistry, fouled up as it is by the mono. There is a growing body of literature on the subject but nothing substantial
so far in terms of practical treatment applications.Find the best pdoc, bring all your son's medical records -- better yet send
them ahead and save time -- and let her/him help you. And do it as soon as
possible.
Best,
S.
