Hi PG.Merital was the trade name for the drug known as nomifensine. As you said, it is a dopaminergic drug, but it also affects norepinephrine quite potently. Hoecht-Roussel pulled it off the market worldwide after it had been available for only a short time. The incidence of hemolytic anemia (red blood cells explode) was considered unacceptably high. It really was very high. Many of these incidences resulted in death.
I am not aware that nomifensine is available anywhere except for its continued use in experiments.
