Carol-Lynn. I don't know a lot about which SSRIs are the most similar to Paxil, but I do know that you have lots of choices. I know effexor is used a lot, but I think it would be to your benefit to have a consultation with a psychiatrist to talk about possible medications, rather than just depending on your internist. Is it possible to get a referral? A psychiatrist would more likely be familiar with all the antidepressants and would be able to prescribe based on your prior success with paxil and your type of depression. It might even be possible to add another medication to paxil to enhance it's antidepressant effects. shellie
