My experience with it is much as Gordon's. I think hypnotherapy is good when applied to specific issues -- and "depression" just isn't specific enough. Using self-hypnosis to help me sleep or relax me when I feel the panic begin to rise is much more helpful.
I don't think you should worry about any "interaction" between hypnosis and meds, tho.
I wish I had the $$$ to do some more work with my hypnotherapist. She's also an MSW, and does combine hypnotherapy with talk therapy. Interestingly enough, she also works with surgery candidates who cannot, for whatever reason, be given an anesthetic ... and it works well enough for a rather major hospital here in NYC to bring her in on a regular basis.
