Experience with Xanex?

I was recently prescribed Xanex for severe anxiety. I was told it would make me groggy for the first few days and then I would build a tolerance to it. I've been taking it for almost a week (tomorrow) and it nearly incapacitates me. I can't take it at work for obvious reasons. I take a 1/2mg as needed, 1mg for severe attacks. Do these side effects pass? Please share your experience with me.
