> Barbara KBarbara - If it only were that easy. There are many variables that come into play when prescribing medication for someone. First you need a complete diagnosis, then an understanding of the person to whom the medication is prescribed, and then the trial and error of finding the right "mix" of meds. There are three main mood stabilizers (plus several being used as mood stabilizers) on the market - lithium, carbamazepine and valproic acid (divalproex). Each are used in slightly different instances and sometimes in combination. There are also numerous antidepressants that could be used (Paxil, Effexor, Serzone, Manerix, etc.) and we cannot know which one will work best in a person without trying them. Sometimes the process of finding the right medication is a lengthy ordeal. Sorry that I cannot help anymore than that. Sincerely - Cam W.
