MAOIs, REM sleep, & Fibromyalgia

Posted by Kim on February 6, 2000, at 2:47:58

In another thread, Elizabeth mentioned a relationship between muscle tone and REM sleep. If MAOIs inhibit REM sleep, and lack of REM sleep is thought to be one of the precipitating factors in Fibromyalgia, then could MAOIs cause Fibromyalgia (or symptoms similar to Fibromyalgia)?

The research I've read about Fibromyalgia often mentions depression as occurring with Fibromyalgia symptoms, but distinguishes it as being situational and not "Major" depression.

I'm taking Parnate, and about a year ago noticed symptoms which suggest fibromyalgia. I haven't said anything to any of my doctors, since I didn't want to be labeled "hypochondriac" along with everything else!
Now I'm wondering if the Parnate has a connection.
