> I HAD BEEN TAKING PROZAC FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND BEGIN TO GAIN WEIGHT, DESPITE 4-5X WEEK EXERCISE AND HEALTHY EATING(PROTEIN, LOW FAT, LOW CARB). I HAD COMPLETE PHYSICAL, BLOOD TESTS, X-RAYS. ALL WITHIN NORMAL RANGE. STOPPED PROZAC AS PER PSYCHIATRIST, NOW ON WELLBUTRIN 10 MG. 4-5 WEEKS, NO CHANGE IN WEIGHT _(35 LBS. OVER CHARTS). ANY WAY OF GETTING STARTED IN WEIGHT LOSS SAFELY. DO OTHER RX'S MIXED W/WELLBUTRIN CREATE OTHER MEDICAL PROBLEMS?
Sam,
Antidepressants just seem to pile the weight on some folks, regardless of diet and exercise habits. They claim Wellbutrin is the least likely to cause this side effect. Many shrinks will augment the SSRI with Wellbutrin to counter weight gain and sexual problems occuring with SSRI usage.
There are numerous posts about this in previous months...you might want to take a look at them.
