fish oil/ phospholipid schizophrenia hypothesis

Posted by Thomas Rodd on December 4, 1998, at 8:55:12

My adult son, who's been ill with scizophrenia for four years, started clozaril six months ago and has shown a great improvement. In my web browsing I recently found the University of Sheffield web site (http://unicorn.shef.ac.uk:80/uni/projects/omega3/dietand.htm) that reports on their work exploring the possible beneficial effects of fish oil and the fatty acids, EPA, etc., on schizophrenia symptoms and discussing a phospholipid hypothesis. Also see http://www.fincastle.com:80/corp/products.html.
I copied the reports and sent them to my son's doctor, asking her whether she thought it was worth suggesting that my son try taking fish oil supplements. I wonder if anyone has any other references or information that I might share with her. I haven't seen much information on the schizophreina.com site, but it is somewhat chaotic.
